Description

Stripe Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century, with 19th and 20th century extensions. It is constructed of dressed sandstone with tooled quoins, topped with a pantile roof and a brick stack. The building has a single cell, direct-entry plan, and features an outshut and a rear service wing that were added later.

The front door is a six-panel design with two glazed panels, located to the right of a 16-pane sash window, which is mirrored by a similar window on the first floor. Above the door, there is a Yorkshire Insurance firemark. The windows have painted stone sills and painted tooled lintels. The eaves have a cavetto-moulded course, and the gables are coped with shaped kneelers, although the left one has been renewed. There is an end stack on the left side of the building.

On the left gable wall, there is a two-light, 12-pane horizontal-sliding sash window with a stone sill and timber lintel, providing light to the attic. Inside, the staircase rises to the attic and is entirely enclosed in moulded panelling, which is raised and fielded on the rear side. The doors are planked and hung on strap hinges, featuring original door furniture. The ground-floor front room includes panelled shutters and two fireplace cupboards with panelled doors. The first-floor front room has a panelled window recess and a basket grate.
