Description

This is a mile-post from the late 19th century, created by F Matisson and Co in Bedale. It is made of white-painted cast iron with black-painted raised lettering and has a triangular shape, standing approximately 0.70 metres high. The left face indicates that Malton is 6 miles away and Kirbymoorside is 7 miles away. The sloping upper face features the word "Pickering," while a semicircular plate at the back encloses the words "North Riding of Yorkshire." The maker's name is also cast into the metal on the rear.
