Description

This is a milepost from the late 19th century, made by Matteson of Bedale. It is constructed from painted cast iron and has a triangular shape. The milepost stands approximately 1 meter high, featuring a sloped upper face and a semicircular back plate. The back plate is stamped with "NORTH RIDING OF YORKSHIRE." The upper face displays "MALTON UDC," while the left face reads "MALTON 3 arrow> YORK 21," and the right face shows "PICKERING 5-1/2."
