Description

Nos 60-61, including the village shop, is a row of cottages and a shop built in the 19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with some areas rebuilt in yellow brick, and features tile hanging under the eaves and on the gable, topped with a plain tile roof. It is one and a half storeys high, with four bays along the front and a two-storey, three-bay wing at the rear.

The front of the building includes a shop in the wider left-hand bay, which has a half-glazed door under a gauged arch near the end and a large six-light transomed shop window, complete with a blind box. Above this, there is a moulded string course and a tile-hung band, as well as a two-light gabled dormer on the roof with bargeboards. To the left of the centre bay, there is a half-glazed door with a segmental head and a two-light casement window under the eaves. A straight joint in the centre indicates a change to mainly yellow bricks on the right-hand side. The right-hand bay features a plank door with a segmental head, while the right bay has a large rectangular hip-roofed bow window and a two-light casement window with a head in a gabled dormer. The roof has a higher ridge on the left-hand bay and overhangs the tile-hung left gable, which also has bargeboards. There is a central large ridge stack and an additional stack on the ridge of the wing behind the left bay.
