Description

Milestone located 15 meters north of the entrance to Stydd House and Stydd Close, dating from the 18th century. It is made of painted stone and has a square section with a hipped top. The stone is set diagonally onto the road, featuring inscriptions on both front faces that read 'X MILES TO SOUTHAMPTON' and 'VIII MILES TO LYMINGTON'. This milestone is positioned along the route of the Lymington Lyndhurst and Rumbridge Turnpike, established in 1756.
