Description
This milestone, located 10 meters south of the entrance to New Park on the opposite side of the road, dates from the 18th century. It is made of painted stone and has a square plan with a hipped top, set diagonally onto the road. The milestone is inscribed on both front faces, stating 'II MILES to LYNDHURST' and 'VI MILES to LYMINGTON'. It marks the route of the Lymington, Lyndhurst and Rumbridge Turnpike established in 1756.
