Description
The wall in front of Elcombes and Little Elcombes is a Grade II listed structure dating from the 18th century, with some rebuilding in the 19th century. It is made of brick and features a timber gate. The wall stretches approximately 70 meters in length, running east-west in front of the house. The central part of the wall aligns with the porch of the house and curves inward towards it, creating a gateway in the middle. The wall stands about 2 meters high and includes square brick piers topped with tile and soldier course coping. At the center, the piers at either end of a short length are set at an angle, with the gate positioned parallel to the rest of the wall. The wall rises over the gateway in an arch, featuring a rounded archway with a gate that may date from the 18th century. The gate has a square lower panel and a lugged upper panel beneath a semi-circular opening, adorned with turned radiating bars.
