Description
The wall, gate piers, and gates to the Old Rectory are located on the east garden front of the house, facing Porton Road. They date from the early 18th century and are constructed of brick with stone copings. The wall features Flemish bond brickwork on twice offset foundations, reaching a total height of approximately 1.5 meters. It has a chamfered stone coping that rises to meet the end and central gate piers opposite the front entrance. The gate piers are made of 21-inch brick with an internal stop and have a shaped top. They include moulded brick neckings and a flat stone cap with a cyma cornice. The total length of the wall is approximately 23 meters, ending in 18-inch piers topped with ball finials. The wall continues to the south with a flint wall that incorporates some 17th-century brick quoins and tiled copings, measuring approximately 21 meters in length and twice angled at the south end.
