Description
The S.V. Gondola Stores is a barn and cow house, likely built in the 17th century. It is constructed from stone rubble and has a slate roof. The building features an 8-bay barn with a cow house at the southeast end and an outshut at the rear. The windows have timber lintels; five are casements, while the two end bays have unglazed, 4-light wooden chamfered-mullioned windows. The window in the seventh bay has stubs of intermediate bars, and the eighth bay has one missing mullion but retains one intermediate bar. There are pivoted barn doors in the seventh bay, and the gable ends include triangular owl holes. The cow house has been modified with inserted garage doors, and the lintel is a reused beam that shows remains of withies for plaster partitioning. It also has three windows and an entrance with a pivoted door that has ventilation slots; one of the windows was formerly an entrance. Inside, there are stop-chamfered posts and beams, and the barn features three exposed collar and tie beam trusses, while the rest of the ceiling is covered. The property is owned by The National Trust.
