Description
The barns to the east of Boon Crag Farmhouse consist of two barns, a cow house, and stores. The main barn dates from the 17th century, while the cow house and store were built in the 18th century. There is also a mid to late 19th-century bank barn and turnip house to the south, all constructed from stone with slate roofs. The bank barn and turnip house feature quoins. The 4-bay barn has tie beam and strut trusses, along with a corn ark. To the west, there is a cow house with partitions and a projecting store to the north. To the east, there is a later gabled addition and a timber shelter shed. The bank barn has three bays and a central taller gabled entrance bay, with returns that include lunettes and ventilation slots. To the south, there is a small gabled structure believed to have been a turnip house. This property is owned by The National Trust, a gift from Beatrix Potter.
