Description
Rowlandson Ground is a house dating from 1690. It is constructed of painted stone rubble with a roughcast front and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys tall with five bays, although the end two bays are only one storey due to the slope of the ground. These bays are recessed and supported by curved timber brackets that hold wide eaves. There is a small, much altered bay on the left return.
The windows feature casements with iron opening lights. The third bay contains a five-light wood-mullioned window, with a two-light fire window to the right, showcasing narrow mullions and transoms. The fourth bay has a casement next to a glazed door that is set under a large timber lintel. The entrance is located in the second bay and is accessed through a gabled glazed porch. The end bay includes garage doors.
The house has a cross-axial stack with a round shaft and gable end stacks, with the one on the right return projecting and flanking three-light windows. The rear of the building features a stair wing beneath a cat slide roof, with a lean-to outshut to the right. The fenestration is varied, including a two-light chamfered wood mullion window and a similar three-light stair window, while the end bay has a first-floor sashed window with glazing bars. Inside, there are beams, a cupboard, and a winding stair.
