Description

Atkinson Ground Farmhouse and attached cottages are three houses dating from the 17th century or early 18th century, with later alterations. They are constructed of roughcast stone and have a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with the first bay being lower than the others. There is a drip course above the central three bays. Most of the windows are sashed with single glazing bars and horns, while the first bay and the ground floor of the second bay feature large windows with 20th-century casements. The fifth bay on the first floor has a casement window with an iron opening light.

The entrance to the third bay includes a slate slab porch and a wide-board door, while the entrance to the fifth bay has a slate gabled canopy and a glazed door. The building has gable-end stacks and a cross-axial stack. At the rear, there is a lean-to outshut and a stair wing under a cat slide roof, along with a gabled wing and casement windows, and an entrance with a gabled open porch. The right return features a gabled trellis porch. Inside the farmhouse, there are plank and muntin and stud and plaster partitions, a spice cupboard, and an adjacent cupboard with doors.
