Description

A barn with cowhouses and stable, probably dating from the 18th century. The building is constructed of stone with a stone slate roof. The barn has a three-bay cowhouse to the left and a single-bay cowhouse to the right of the entrance, which has barn doors. The left-hand three-bay cowhouse has stone piers to the front, now partially filled with brick and containing windows and an entrance. It features four stalls and a shallower pitched roof. The right-hand cowhouse has an entrance on its left return and two stalls. A lower, recessed two-storey block to the left has an elliptical-arched entrance leading to a cart shed, alongside a stable or cowhouse door and a window to the right. Windows on the first floor retain some frame remnants. The left return has external stone steps, with brick cladding, leading to a first-floor entrance, possibly to a granary. The rear facade has a blocked barn entrance with a timber lintel and a segmental relieving arch, alongside a battered buttress and a 20th-century open shed. Inside the barn, there are internal buttresses supporting king post trusses with struts and through purlins across four bays. A floor has been inserted in the right-hand bay. The stable features a tie-beam truss and through purlins.
