Description

The Guildhall Barn is a 17th-century barn with a cow house and stable. It is constructed of stone with stone slate and slate roofing. The barn is a single storey, with a two-storey cross wing to the west end. The 5-bay barn has a cow house built into a closed bay on the north side of the central three bays, along with a large entrance to the left and a smaller entrance to the right. The cow house features a central entrance flanked by windows. A wide-boarded door is present on the right return. The south facade, which faces the Lane, has a large entrance to the left and evidence of a blocked entrance on the right. The roof is slate on the north slope and stone slate on the south slope. The cross wing has a stable door and window, a pitching door, and flanking small windows, one of two lights, along with two pigeon holes with a ledge to the apex on the north gable end. The return side of the cross wing has a stable door, two windows, and a pitching hole. The south gable end of the cross wing has a window. Inside the barn, there is a cruck truss with a tie beam and collar to the east of the entrance bay, followed by two tie-beam trusses with struts, and a cross-wall separating the eastern bay from the rest of the barn, which includes a pitching hole. The cow house contains five stalls, and a purlin is supported on a curved tie beam and four posts, two of which have ovolo moulding. The cross wing has a tie-beam truss with struts. The barn is likely contemporary with the farmhouse.
