Description

Laburnum House is a barn, likely dating from the 18th century. It is located on the south side of Crank Hill in Rainford. Originally part of Heysome House, it was previously listed as a three-bay barn to the north-east of the main house. The barn is constructed of brick on a high stone plinth, with a stone slate roof. A later, open-fronted shed has been added to the left return. The barn has five bays, with a central entrance flanked by cheeks. The first bay has a pitching hole, and the end bay features a stable door. Inside, the barn has tie-beam trusses with supporting struts and wind braces. A 20th-century brick cross wall has been built to the right of the entrance, and a floor has been inserted into the last two bays. The rear entrance has been blocked. The gable ends are topped with ball finials.
