Description

The Hudson Monument is a table tomb located approximately 16 meters south of All Saints' Church in Matterdale, Watermillock. It dates from 1746 and features a slab with a moulded edge supported by square balusters. The monument commemorates Christopher Hudson, who died in 1745, his son Joseph, who died in 1746, and his grandson William, who also died in 1746. The inscription on the tomb concludes with the poignant phrase: "FRAIL STATE OF MAN! FATHER/& ISSUE ALL EXTINCT IN A YEARS/TIME."
