MATTERDALE A592 (north side) NY 42 SW Watermillock 6/148 Knotts Farmhouse and attached outbuilding -

  • II Farmhouse and attached outbuilding. Probably late C17 with C19 addition. Stone rubble, south-east elevation of house roughcast. South-east elevation of 2 storeys and 6 bays with 2-bay outbuilding to right; 1st bay projects as gabled C19 addition, 5th and 6th bays probably converted from outbuilding. Ground floor has 3-light single-chamfered-mullioned window to 3rd bay, similar 2-light window to 4th bay; small-paned window, possibly in former entrance, to 5th bay. 1st floor has 2-light single-chamfered-mullioned windows with label moulds to 2nd, 3rd and 4th bays; small light with sash to 1st bay, to right of wing; 5th and 6th bays have small windows, one with sash. Wing has sashed windows with single glazing bars and horns to right return. Entrances to 2nd and 6th bays, and right return of wing. Cross-axial stack, and gable-end stack to wing. Outbuilding has elliptical-headed cart entrance with pitching hole over, and 1st floor entrance up steps. Rear has continuous outshut under catslide roof of 2 phases, varied fenestration, stack to gable-end. Outbuilding has varied lean-to outshuts and 1st floor windows to right hand end.
