Description
Knotts Farmhouse and attached outbuilding is a farmhouse likely dating from the late 17th century, with a 19th-century addition. The building is constructed of stone rubble, with the southeast elevation of the house being roughcast. The southeast side features two storeys and six bays, with a two-bay outbuilding to the right. The first bay projects as a gabled 19th-century addition, while the fifth and sixth bays have likely been converted from an outbuilding.
On the ground floor, there is a three-light single-chamfered-mullioned window in the third bay and a similar two-light window in the fourth bay. The fifth bay has a small-paned window, possibly from a former entrance. The first floor includes two-light single-chamfered-mullioned windows with label moulds in the second, third, and fourth bays, a small light with a sash in the first bay to the right of the wing, and small windows in the fifth and sixth bays, one of which has a sash. The wing features sashed windows with single glazing bars and horns on the right return. There are entrances in the second and sixth bays, as well as on the right return of the wing. The building has a cross-axial stack and a gable-end stack on the wing.
The outbuilding has an elliptical-headed cart entrance with a pitching hole above, and a first-floor entrance accessed by steps. The rear of the building has a continuous outshut under a catslide roof, which is of two phases and has varied fenestration, along with a stack at the gable end. The outbuilding also features varied lean-to outshuts and first-floor windows at the right-hand end.
