Description

Hingston Farmhouse and the attached outbuilding are likely from the 17th century, although they have undergone significant modifications in the 19th century, including changes to the windows. The buildings are constructed from rendered rubble or cob, with some areas of exposed painted rubble. The farmhouse has a low-pitched slate roof, while the outbuilding features a corrugated iron roof.

The farmhouse appears to have been built in two stages and has an outbuilding that is positioned at right angles to it. It is two storeys high and has four windows: two are 3-light casements with horizontal bars, one is a 20th-century casement, and there is a 20th-century glazed door located in a gabled porch at the third bay. The fourth bay is at a lower level. There is a gable stack on the right side and another stack situated between the first and second bays, which may be part of the original outer gable.

At the back of the farmhouse, there is an outshot that includes a bread oven and stairs, with a second similar outshot at the far end. The first floor has two 2-light casements. The gable end features a 3-light window above a lean-to porch and a 2-light window. The barn that faces the farmhouse is two storeys high and has a steep roof pitch, likely indicating an earlier structure. It includes a 4-light window from the 19th century on the first floor above a lean-to garage, which is not of special interest. There is also a first-floor plank door accessed by a set of sandstone steps, along with a pitching door to the right of a blocked opening. The end gable has a plank door with a concrete lintel. The interior has not been inspected.
