Description

Bigbury Court is a former hotel, now owned by MENCAP, primarily dating from the early 19th century with some elements from the 17th century at the rear. The building is constructed of slate-hung rubble, with a rendered back and a hipped slate roof. The main front block is a handsome double-depth structure with three windows. It features 16-pane sash windows, a central four-panel door, part-glazed within a flat-roofed portico supported by slender Roman Doric wooden columns on stone bases, with glazed sides. A late 20th-century flat-roofed extension and a 16-pane sash window are on the left return, alongside a wing with casement windows. The right return includes a canted oriel window with a 4:16:4-pane sash above a two-light glazing bar casement, and a two-storey lower wing with various casement windows. Deep box eaves, and rendered eaves stacks are present. The interior features a central staircase with stick balusters. The older rear wing includes a fireplace with a stone lintol and another with a large wood bressumer to a bead mould edge. A remains of a butter well is also present.
