Description
The granite memorial cross is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Lawrence, which is listed at Grade II*. It is situated near the Grade II-listed gate piers, gate, and walls at the east entrance to St Lawrence. The cross is designed as a Latin cross that rises from a plain foot, which is square in shape, and it stands on a slightly tapering pedestal. This pedestal is placed on a two-stepped base that is enclosed by a low square kerb.
The main dedicatory inscriptions on the front face of the cross shaft's foot read: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918." The names of those who died in the First World War are listed on the front face of the pedestal, including their rank, service, age, and date of death. Additionally, there is a single name from the Second World War recorded on one side of the pedestal.
