Description

Rose Cot is a farmhouse dating to the late 17th or early 18th century. It is built of limewashed rubble with a shingle roof, originally thatched. The building may have begun as a three-room cross passage plan, with heated outer rooms and a staircase flanking a fireplace at the left end. The farmhouse now has two storeys and three windows. The ground floor features a three-light casement window, a wide, part-glazed door sheltered by a lean-to slate hood, and a small, blocked window between the two. Above, three two-light casement windows are present, without glazing bars. A large gable stack is located on the left side of the building. The rear of the farmhouse has later extensions, and a cat-slide roof. The right end features a half-hip, with a small external stack. The left return is rendered and includes a small stairwell window, a two-light casement, and two blocked openings.

Inside, some exposed rough beams and a large chimney breast remain. A spiral staircase is located at the left-hand end. The original roof structure retains collar trusses on cruck-like principals.
