Description

Tongue House, attached barn, and cottage is a house, cottage, and outbuilding dating from 1746, as indicated by an inscribed lintel. The structure is built of roughcast stone with a slate roof and is arranged in an L-plan over two storeys. The south range consists of six bays, with the fifth and sixth bays being later additions, and there is a wing from the 18th to 19th century at the western angle.

The south elevation features two-light recessed flat-faced mullioned windows in the first four bays, although the first floor has two windows with missing mullions and a single light in the first bay. The end two bays have 20th-century casements. The wing has sashed windows, some of which include glazing bars. The entrance to the third bay has a dated lintel and a 20th-century half-glazed door. There is a gable-end stack and a cross-axial stack. The rear of the building has an outshut beneath a catslide roof and varied fenestration.

The east range includes an entrance and a lean-to outshut at the gabled first bay, with a 20th-century casement above. The barn to the north features a segmental-headed entrance with 20th-century paired doors and an overlight. The end cottage has two bays with small sashed windows that have single glazing bars and horns, along with a plain entrance and a cross-axial stack. The interior has not been inspected but is said to contain a winding stone stair.
