Description

The Hobbs monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 1.5 meters west of the priest's door on the south side of the Church of St. Andrew and St. Bartholomew. It commemorates John Hobbs, who died in 1747. The tomb is made of stone and features a flat lid with a moulded edge. The sides are framed by a pendant strap of flowers, and there is a fielded panel, which is made of a different stone on the north side. The ends of the tomb have fielded panels with scalloped corners, and the east end is decorated with leaf motifs in the scallops, while the west end displays winged cherubs' heads. The monument has a moulded base and exhibits good lettering, with flourishes added to some words, along with later inscriptions.
