Description

The Colchester monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 2.5 meters north of the north-west corner of the transept of the Church of St Andrew and St Bartholomew. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a slightly raised rectangular section in the center and a moulded edge. It is supported by corner Tuscan pillars and has a raised, reeded border around the rectangular panels on the sides and ends. The base is moulded and sits on a wide stone base, which originally carried railings. This monument commemorates the Colchester family, with the earliest dated inscription for Stephen, who died in 1746.
