Description
Canfield Cottages are semi-detached houses dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. They feature brick-nogged timber framing, painted coursed squared stone, and a tiled roof. The cottages are three bays wide and one and a half storeys tall, with a depth of one room.
The front facade has a left bay made of stone, which includes a two-light late 20th-century timber window that has widened an earlier opening, with a cambered brick arch above it. To the right is a narrower similar window that infills a former door. The timber-framed section to the right has angle braces connecting the main posts to the wallplate. There is a half-glazed door and a single-light window, along with a two-light casement window. Each timber-framed bay has a lean-to dormer; the left has a late 20th-century window, while the right features a five-light wooden window with diamond-set mullions.
A chimney is located on the left gable below the ridge, with another chimney on the ridge behind the door and an external brick chimney on the right gable. Both gables are timber-framed. There is a lean-to and an open wooden porch situated between the chimney and the corner on the right, which covers a boarded door. The interior has not been inspected but is likely a single house that has been subdivided. The roof has a steep pitch.
