Description
The Cross in Ashleworth, located on The Green, is a Grade II listed structure that likely dates back to the 14th century. It was rebuilt in the 1970s. The base is made of squared stone, while the upper section is constructed of ashlar. The cross features two tall square stone steps leading up to a square base with a chamfered top, which has central 'V' stooling on each face. Above this, the square base transitions to an octagon, leading to a tall, octagonal shaft. The head of the cross is square and adorned with carved corbels at the angles. On opposite faces, it depicts the Crucifixion with three figures, topped with a trefoil head and gables. Single figures under trefoil heads are found on the other sides. Remains of the cross were discovered in the late 19th century and were re-erected in the churchyard before being moved to The Green in the 1970s.
