Description

Red Door Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century, with enlargements made in the 18th century and restoration in the late 20th century. The building features roughcast over rubble and possibly cob, topped with an asbestos slate hipped roof. There is a large lateral stack to the left of the entrance and a brick stack set to the right. The layout likely consists of two cells and a cross passage, with an additional bay added to the left into the hillside, along with a storeroom addition and a wing projecting at the rear.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a facade with one bay on the left that is unlit, while the right side has two bays. All windows are 20th-century casements. On the first floor, there is one 2-light casement to the left of the stack and two to the right. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light casements, one to the left for the storeroom and one to the left of the stack. A notable feature is the good semi-circular headed door frame leading to a studded door. The end bay on the right is obscured by unlit farm buildings that have an asbestos slate roof and flat bedded slate walls.

Inside, to the left of the cross passage, there is a well-crafted chamfered 4-panel compartment ceiling, which includes half bays for the open fireplace and window. The staircase is positioned against the rear wall and appears to be in its original location, featuring a moulded door frame to the partition. The roof trusses have been renewed.
