Description

Winn Cottage and Thorn Cottage are a pair of semi-detached cottages dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with alterations made in the late 20th century. They are constructed with roughcast over rubble and feature a half-hipped thatched roof. There is a central stone stack and stone and roughcast stacks in the outer bays. The cottages have a three-cell plan and are almost identical, each with projecting circular stone turrets on the facade.

The buildings are two storeys high and have a long front with eight windows. The end bays project, and most of the windows are from the 20th century, set below wooden lintels. The 19th-century leaded stair lights are notable, and the entrance to Thorn Cottage features a left gabled porch with a half-glazed 19th-century door that has marginal glazing bars. Winn Cottage has a 20th-century door located to the right, beneath a triple ridge tile pentice porch, which is similar to the one over the outer bay window on the right.

Together, these cottages form a picturesque group and represent an unusual plan for semi-detached cottages in West Somerset. The interior has not been seen but is reported to lack dateable features.
