Description

Bevins House is a house, likely dating to the 18th century, located in Winsford village. The building is constructed with roughcast over rubble, featuring a steeply pitched asbestos slate roof and brick stacks positioned below the ridge at the gable ends. The original plan comprised a two-cell layout with a cross passage and a rear wing. The house has two storeys and three bays, displaying sash windows with single vertical glazing bars and a central half-glazed door with two lights. The property holds group value for its historical significance as the birthplace of the statesman and trade union leader Ernest Bevin (1881-1951), who resided here for his first eight years. A slate plaque inscribed in his memory is affixed to the end bay on the right. The roof was raised at a later date.
