Description

Lyncombe is a farmhouse dating from the 16th to 17th century, with an additional bay added to the right, likely in the 19th century. The building is roughcast over rubble and has an asbestos slate roof. It features an external stack on the left gable end that projects, a 20th-century external stack on the right gable end set back, and a large lateral stack to the left of the cross passage entrance. There is also another stack on the rear elevation with a bread oven projection.

The layout consists of three cells and a cross passage, which has been enlarged to four cells and a cross passage beyond the kitchen, where a stair turret opens out. The farmhouse is two storeys high with a 2:3 bay arrangement. Most of the windows are from the 20th century, with two on the first floor to the left of the lateral stack, one being a leaded iron casement from the 18th to early 19th century. To the right, there are three 2-light windows. The ground floor on the left originally had an unglazed opening, now with a leaded iron casement from the same period beyond it. There is a small glazed opening in the lateral stack and remnants of a 4-light ovolo moulded mullioned window with two inserted 20th-century lights. This is flanked by a 19th-century diagonally boarded door on the right and a peaked moulded door frame with renewed jambs and a plank door on the left leading to the cross passage. The right gable end is weather boarded and has 20th-century windows.

The interior has only been partially observed, but it includes a peaked door frame to the stair turret and cross passage from the kitchen, a chamfered lintel to the rear lateral stack that may have been renewed, and a lateral chamfered beam with an unidentified stop, along with chamfered axial beams in the upper end rooms.
