Description
The Cottage and No 15 is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century and underwent extensive alterations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The building is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, which has been heavily repointed. There is brickwork below the window sills on the left side of the stack, and the right wall has been built out in line with the lateral stack. The eaves have a slight bell-cast and include sprockets, while the roof is covered with double Roman tiles. An external stack is located on the left gable end, featuring a renewed circular chimney. The right gable end has been rebuilt in roughcast, and there are remains of a lateral stack with a rebuilt brick chimney. A slate-roofed bread oven projection is situated in the angle of the building. The layout consists of three cells and a cross passage, with the entrance now located at the left gable end through a lean-to porch addition. The building is two storeys high with two bays on each side. All the windows are 20th-century three-light casements set beneath wooden lintels, and there is a 20th-century half-glazed door to the left of the stack, along with a ribbed plank door in the left return gable end of the porch. The Cottage and No 15 is primarily listed for its group value.
