Description
Walnut Tree Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that was altered in the mid-19th century. The exterior features slobbered red sandstone random rubble on the returns, triple ridge tiles, and overhanging eaves. There is a large lateral stack to the right of the entrance, which includes a projection for a bread oven. The plan likely includes a two-cell outbuilding adjoining the left of the entrance. The cottage is two storeys high with two bays; the first floor has two-light leaded casements flanking the stack. The right bay is built out in line with the stack and has no windows on the right side, but the ground floor is lit by a small leaded window. The left side features a three-light leaded iron casement and a square leaded entrance with a plank door. To the left, there is an independently roofed single-storey building with a plank door. Although the interior has not been seen, it is said to contain a plank and muntin screen.
