Description

Olands is a pair of semi-detached cottages, now functioning as a single dwelling. They likely date back to the 17th century but were largely rebuilt in the late 19th century. The exterior features local stone random rubble and a plain clay tile roof. There is a central lateral stack with a triple ridge tile bread oven projection on the right, and a stone stack rising from the eaves at the left end bay, which is supported by a full height buttress.

The current layout is not entirely clear without an internal inspection, but it is organized in a three-cell plan. The building has two storeys and four bays. The windows are 20th-century 2-light casements. A full height buttress is located between the first and second bays on the left. The ground floor on the left has a 3-light window beneath a wooden lintel, and there is a double Roman tiled gabled rustic wooden porch next to the lateral stack, along with a similarly tiled pentice porch on lattice brackets to the right. The entrance has been blocked and replaced with a 20th-century window, and there is another 2-light casement beneath a wooden lintel to the right.

Attached to the main structure is a lower independently roofed wing with a double Roman tile roof, which is one and a half storeys high and has a single window at the right end, lit from the gable end. The rear elevation is entirely from the late 19th century, featuring brick jambs around square window openings. Olands is an interesting example of 19th-century restoration, showcasing an attractive front and a more utilitarian rear elevation.
