Description
Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century and is built on the site of an earlier dwelling. It was altered in the late 19th century. The building is constructed from random rubble local stone and features slate roofs with an irregular eaves line. The roof is hipped to the right, and there is a large truncated external stack on the crosswing gable end to the left, along with a slate-roofed bread oven projection. The farmhouse is arranged in an L-plan, facing a foldyard.
It has two storeys, with the right block featuring a central full-height porch projection that has a catslide roof and is unlit on the first floor. To the right of the porch is a 20th-century casement window, and to the left is an early 19th-century three-light leaded iron casement. On the ground floor, there is a three-light casement window to the left under a wooden lintel, and diagonally boarded double doors from the 19th century under a wooden lintel. There is a projection at the junction with the wing, which may contain stairs, and an unlit first-floor re-entrant angle with a segmental-headed window and door below. The first floor gable end is lit by windows on either side of the stack.
The rear elevation faces onto the churchyard of Stoke Pero Church and features a large roughcast stepped lateral stack with a slate-roofed bread oven projection. The interior has not been seen. Church Farmhouse is a good example of local vernacular architecture and is grouped with farm buildings to the northeast.
