Description
Stiles Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th to early 18th century, possibly incorporating an earlier dwelling at the rear. The building is roughcast over rubble with a slate roof, featuring a large stone stack at the rear and brick stacks at the gable ends. The plan consists of three cells and a cross passage, with a parallel range at the rear linked by a covered way.
The farmhouse has two storeys and five bays. On the first floor, there is a three-light window on the left, and the other windows are cruciform, all of which are 17th-century leaded iron casements, some with quadrant stays and the second from the left featuring a decorative catch. The ground floor windows are set under moulded lintels, with the left side altered to include a three-light mullioned and transomed window, and a 20th-century window to the left of the entrance. On the right side, there is a late 17th-century three-light casement with a quadrant stay. The entrance features a 19th-century plank door and a slate-roofed pentice porch supported by early 19th-century decorative wooden trellis work.
At the rear, there is an outshut addition. The gable end of the parallel range includes pigeon holes, a projection for a bread oven, and a small lancet window to the right. The interior has not been seen but could be of interest.
