Description

The Old Post Office is a cottage, likely originally with an adjoining barn, which has been altered to serve as a single dwelling and was once the Post Office. It dates from the 17th century and was modified in the early 19th century. The entrance front is rendered and color washed, while the right return features random rubble that faces the road. The building has a thatched roof and a hipped barn wing, with a brick stack located to the right of the entrance. It is designed in an L-plan, probably consisting of two cells and a cross passage, all under one roof.

The entrance front is two storeys high and has three bays. The first floor features early 19th-century leaded iron casements, with a three-light dormer in the outer bays that rises from below the eaves, and central two-light dormers set below the eaves. The ground floor has renewed three-light casements, and a central plank door is sheltered by a clay tile pentice porch supported on shaped brackets.

On the right return, the first floor has two windows at the end right, including a two-light iron casement and a three-light moulded mullioned window beyond. The ground floor is lit only at the left end bay with a three-light ovolo moulded mullioned casement. The rear elevation is lit with late 20th-century casements, and there is an attached wing at the back. The interior has not been seen.
