Description

Footlands Cottage is an early 17th-century cottage, altered in the mid-20th century. It is built of rendered rubble and cob, with a thatched roof and brick stacks at the left gable end. A stone stack with a brick cap is situated on the right. The original layout comprised two cells with a staircase adjoining the left stack, and a curing chamber projection. The cottage has two storeys and three bays, with an unlit full-height bay to the left. The ground floor features a single window to the left of a plank door, alongside a half-glazed door. A two-bay, penticed porch with pantiled roof is also present. A remaining two-light mullioned window with ovolo moulding illuminates the stairs on the left return, with a 20th-century window below. A lean-to addition is on the right return. The rear elevation, fronting the road, is unlit. The interior remains unseen, but is said to feature chamfered beams with scroll stops and a collar bead roof. The current occupant retains mullioned windows that were removed in the 1960s.
