Description
Pound Cottages, now three separate dwellings, began as a farmhouse dating back to the 17th century, with significant additions made in the early 18th century and alterations in the mid-20th century. The cottages are constructed of rubble, rendered and covered with a thatched roof, with a hipped rear wing. Brick stacks are situated at the left gable end and above the entrance to No. 3. The rear gable end is stepped externally. The layout likely originated as a three-cell farmhouse with a cross passage, later extended at the rear, and a lobby entry was inserted into No. 3. The cottages are one and a half stories high, with two bays of windows on each side. The windows are 20th-century wooden casements, with dormers projecting from the eaves level. The front wall was raised to accommodate two dormers on the left side. On the ground floor, a three-light casement window sits alongside the entrance on the left, while two two-light casements are positioned to the right of the entrance to No. 3. Plank doors lead into the cottages, and a pentice porch covers the entrance to No. 2. The entrance to No. 1 is located at the rear. The interior remains unseen. Walls which once stood along the right return (east front) have been demolished, and these walls formerly enclosed the village pound until the early 20th century.
