Description

Kildare Oak Cottage, now divided into two dwellings, is likely of late 16th-century origin, with alterations made in the 18th century. The walls are roughcast over rubble, with a wall break projecting to the left of the entrance, featuring raking buttresses. The roof is thatched, and a raised central section of wall contains first-floor windows. A brick stack is located to the left of the cross passage, and an external stack with an projecting oven is at the right gable end. The original plan was of two cells and a cross passage. The cottage is two storeys high and originally had two bays; later 19th-century and 20th-century casement windows are now present, including two three-light casements in the centre, a small glazed opening at the end on the left, and three-light casements flanking the entrance. There is a peaked door frame with weather-worn jambs leading to a 19th-century studded plank door. An outshot extends from the rear of the building. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
