Description

Golsoncott Cottage and its detached privy, located one metre south, date from the 17th to 18th century and were restored in the 20th century. The cottage is built of colour-washed random rubble and has a half-hipped thatched roof. It features a large external lateral stack to the right of the entrance, which includes a slate-roofed bread oven projection. A moulded plinth wraps around the right bay. The building may have originally been a single cell but is now two cells. It has one and a half storeys, with gable ends lit only on the upper floor. The upper floor windows are all 20th-century two-light wooden casements, with one located to the right of the external stack. The left side has a slate-roofed, gabled, colour-washed brick porch with a ribbed plank inner door. The rear elevation facing the road is unlit and features a lean-to addition with a slate roof and a plank door in the re-entrant angle. The detached privy is a single-storey structure with one bay, made of random rubble and topped with a slate roof. It has barge boarding on the outside, a 20th-century window, and a plank door. This cottage is a typical thatched Somerset home, notable for still having its 19th-century external privy.
