Description

Manor Mills is an 18th-century corn mill located in Old Cleeve, now disused. The mill underwent renovation at the time of a survey in December 1983. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble with brick dressings, with some parts rendered, and has slate roofs. The main facade is gabled with a catslide-roofed projection to the right, and a hipped return.

The plan comprises a long rear wing fronted to the left by a two-and-a-half-storey gabled bay, with a small addition set in the angle. The front elevation has three bays; a hoist opening in the gable end features a coved hood and bargeboards carried on diagonal supports. Below that is a loft opening with a lobed top and a linked plank door. Recessed bays on the right have two unglazed openings, a nine-pane window, and two segmental-headed openings which are blocked. A long, four-bay return includes segmental-headed openings. A waterwheel is located at the rear. The interior was not accessible during the survey.

Roadwater was historically noted in the 18th and 19th centuries for its numerous mills beside the Washford River, many of which were fulling mills.
