Description
The Ship Inn is an inn that dates from the 16th to 17th century, with alterations and enlargements made in the early to mid-19th century. The building features roughcast, rendered, and exposed random rubble, topped with a thatched roof that is half-hipped on the left side, and a shallow pitched slate roof with coped verges on the right. There is a lateral stack with a circular pot located between the third and fourth bays on the left, along with rendered stacks on the right gable end and at the junction with the earlier block.
The plan of the inn likely consists of three cells and a cross passage, which has been enlarged by one bay on the left and subsequently extended by four bays on the right. The building is two storeys high and has a facade with three bays on the left, two in the middle, and four on the right, with the end bay addition set at an angle. The left two bays contain 20th-century windows, while there is a 16-pane sash window to the left of the stack, two similar windows to the right, and four in the extension. On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century door leading to a store, accompanied by a wooden trefoil-headed side light that has been reset. To the left of the plank door is a 16-pane sash window, and there is a rustic wooden porch. A 20th-century nine-pane sash window is located to the left of the stack, with a four-step mounting block nearby. To the left of the 20th-century door is a 16-pane sash window. The extension on the right features two cambered-headed archways, with a carriageway opening on the left, double doors on the right, and two cambered doorways beyond rectangular lights.
The interior of the Ship Inn has been extensively altered.
