Dolphin House And Dolphin Crafts Shop, Including Railings To South-West

Dolphin House and Dolphin Crafts Shop is an early 19th-century building located on the north side of Mill Street in Chagford. It is constructed from plastered granite stone rubble with granite stacks and plastered brick chimney shafts, topped by a slate roof. The building has a three-room plan that faces south-west and is slightly set back from the street. The right end of the structure serves as the shop, with an entrance lobby and staircase positioned between the other two rooms. An axial stack is located between the center room and the shop, while the left room features an end stack. There are service outshots at the rear of the building.

The exterior presents a four-window front with 16-pane sash windows. At the right end, there is a late 19th to early 20th-century shop front that projects slightly forward, featuring round-headed windows, a fascia board with a modillion cornice, and a moulded entablature. The three-window section to the left is symmetrical, centered around a doorway that has a panelled door, an overlight with glazing bars, and panelled reveals. In front of this section, a narrow strip of ground is protected by 19th-century cast iron railings. The building has plain projecting eaves, and its roof runs between those of the neighboring properties.

Inside, there is a significant amount of original joinery detail, including a stick baluster open string staircase. Some parts of the rear of the house are believed to be remnants of an earlier building.
