Description
Belmont, now used as offices, is a house dating from the early 19th century, constructed from plastered granite stone rubble, with granite stacks and brick chimney shafts, topped by a slate roof. The building features a two-room plan with a central entrance hall and staircase, facing north-east along the street. Each room has a rear lateral stack, and there is an open through passage leading to a rear courtyard at the north-western end. The house is two storeys high.
The exterior has a stucco front that is lightly incised to resemble ashlar. At the right end, there is an elliptical-headed arch leading to the passage. The front is symmetrical with three windows above a central doorway, which contains a four-panel door with an overlight featuring margin panes, panelled reveals, and a prominent doorcase with flat pilasters that have moulded bases and caps, along with a moulded entablature. The doorway is flanked by 16-pane sash windows on both floors, with a central 12-pane sash window on the first floor. The roof runs parallel to the street, situated between the adjoining properties.
Inside, the building retains a significant amount of original joinery and detail, including an open string stick baluster staircase. A narrow strip of ground at the front is enclosed by cast iron spear-headed railings set into granite coping.
