Description

High Field House is an early 19th-century house located in Lapford. The main block is constructed of plastered rubble, with rubble stacks and plastered brick chimney shafts, and has a slate roof. It is L-shaped, with a 2-room and central staircase plan, and end stacks. A service wing is set at right angles behind the west room.

The south-facing front has a symmetrical design with three large 16-pane sash windows on each floor. A central door, with an overlight, is accessed via a flat-roofed porch supported by Ionic columns and a moulded entablature, which stands upon a flight of granite steps. Deep eaves are supported by shaped brackets, and the roof is gabled. All stacks are topped with 19th-century cream-coloured chimney pots. The service wing has 16-pane sash windows on both floors, and the gable end has plain bargeboards.

The interior retains original plasterwork and joinery, including a stick baluster staircase with a mahogany handrail.
