Description

Millbrook is a house dating from around 1850, constructed from plastered granite stone rubble with granite stacks and plastered chimney shafts, topped by a coated slate roof. The house has a double depth plan and faces south-west, featuring a central entrance hall and staircase with a front and back room on either side, both heated by gable end stacks. It stands two storeys high with attics and a half-basement.

The exterior is finished in stucco, with end pilasters, a projecting plinth, a plain eaves cornice, and a band at the first-floor window sill level. The symmetrical front has three windows, each with 8-pane sashes. These windows are adorned with stucco architraves that include flanking pilasters with moulded caps and projecting sills supported by small brackets. The ground floor windows have pedimented tops, while the first-floor windows utilize the eaves cornice as their heads. The central doorway features a 4-panel door with an overlight that has glazing bars, a moulded doorframe, and a wide moulded hood resting on fluted cobels. The roof has plain projecting eaves and is gable-ended.

In front of the house, there is a narrow strip of ground enclosed by 19th-century cast iron railings, which include square gate posts with panelled sides, all set in granite ashlar coping.
