Description
Chapel Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the 18th century and was refurbished in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of plastered granite with a granite stack and a plastered brick chimney shaft, topped by a thatched roof. The house faces southwest and features a double depth, two-room plan. The main front includes a small unheated room on the left and a larger room on the right, which has a gable end stack. This larger room may have been expanded to incorporate the original entrance lobby and stairwell, with narrow service rooms located at the rear. A former rear service block, now converted into a garage, extends at right angles to the back of the cottage. The building is two storeys high.
The exterior has a symmetrical two-window front with mid-19th century casements that include glazing bars. The tall first-floor windows have pointed arch heads that rise into the thatch as half dormers. The central plank door is likely from the 20th century and is set within a gabled, slate-roofed porch. The roof is gable-ended on the right and half-hipped on the left. The interior has undergone some rearrangement in the 20th century, but the basic plain carpentry details appear to be from the 18th century. The roof has not been inspected.
