Description
This building is a cottage located at 10 Mill Street in Chagford, likely dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of plastered granite rubble with a granite stack and a plastered chimney shaft. The roof is thatched, although the rear service block has been replaced with corrugated iron. The cottage has a two-room plan that faces northeast. It appears that the larger left room, which has a gable end stack, was originally a one-room plan cottage, with the right room added later and set back slightly from the front of the left room. There is a secondary stable block with haylofts above, built at right angles to the rear of the left room. The cottage is two storeys high and features a two-to-one window arrangement from the 19th and 20th centuries, with glazing bars, and a 19th-century plank door at the left end. The roof is hipped on the right side and gable-ended on the left. The rear service end is also gable-ended and includes a pair of doorways with loading hatches above. The interior was not available for inspection during the survey but appears to be unmodernised.
