Description
Lawn House is a house that likely dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and was modernised in the late 19th century. It is constructed of plastered granite stone rubble with granite stacks and plastered brick chimney shafts, topped with a thatched roof. The house has an L-shaped plan, with the main block facing north-east along the street. This block features a two-room layout with a central entrance hall and staircase. The left room is heated by an axial stack that backs onto the entrance hall, while the right room has a gable end stack. There is a rear block that projects at right angles from the back of the right room. The house is two storeys tall with attics.
The exterior is symmetrical, with a two-window front surrounding a central doorway. The doorway contains a six-panel door with an overlight that lacks glazing bars, panelled reveals, and a doorcase featuring plain pilasters and a moulded entablature supported by shaped brackets. The ground and first floors have 16-pane sash windows, and there are gable half dormers with 20th-century casements that include glazing bars. The stucco front is lightly incised to resemble ashlar. Although the interior has not been inspected, the front of the property is bordered by a narrow strip of ground fenced with cast iron railings that have spear-headed tops, set in granite coping, and the gate posts are topped with vase caps.
