Description
Hillmoor House is a house built around 1840, featuring plastered walls that are likely made of stone rubble, with stone rubble stacks topped by 20th-century brick chimney shafts and a slate roof. The house is situated on a hillside, facing north-north-west, and has a double depth plan with a front and back room on either side of a wide central passage that includes the staircase. The rooms are heated by end stacks. There is a lower two-room service block set slightly back from the front on the right (west) end.
The exterior of the main house has a symmetrical three-window front with 16-pane sash windows surrounding a central doorway. This doorway features a panelled door, a fanlight with a radial pattern of glazing bars, and a gabled doorcase that includes a shield in the gable. The eaves are plain and the roof is hipped at both ends. The rear elevation is similar, but the central doorway here has a six-panel door. The service block has a blind front but includes a plank door and horned 12-pane sashes at the rear. The interior has not been inspected but is believed to contain a significant amount of original joinery and other details.
